The operating instructions for any battery are extremely important. Although the Sepahan Battery operating instructions vary according to the battery type and model, there are similarities in the basic construction.

These include notes:

Safety information

icon childern away Keep children away from acid and batteries
icon explosion Explosion hazard: A highly-explosive oxyhydrogen gas mixture occurs when charging batteries, therefore.
icon fire prohibited Fires, sparks, naked lights and smoking are prohibited: Avoid causing sparks when dealing with cables and electrical equipment, and beware of electrostatic discharges. Avoid short-circuits
icon corrosive hazard Corrosive hazard: Battery acid is highly corrosive, therefore: Wear protective gloves and eye protection. Do not tilt battery, acid can escape from the degassing openings or vents
icon eye protection Wear eye protection
icon first aid First aid: Rinse off acid splashed in the eyes immediately for several minutes with clear water. Then consult a doctor immediately. Neutralize acid splash on skin or clothes immediately with acid neutralizer (soda) or soap suds and rinse with plenty of water. If acid is consumed, consult a doctor immediately
icon warning note Warning note: Do not place batteries in direct daylight without protection. Discharged batteries can freeze up, therefore store in an area free from frost
icon recycle Disposal: Hand in old batteries at a collection point
icon never dispose Never dispose of old batteries as domestic waste

Storage and transport

  • Batteries are filled with acid
  • They should be stored and transported upright so they do not tip over and cause acid to spill out
  • Store in a cool and dry place
  • Leave the protective cap (if present) on the positive terminal
  • Practice FIFO (first in, first out) storage

Installing and removing

  • Remove protective cap from positive terminal only when ready to connect to the vehicle and put it on the terminal of the battery which you have removed so as to avoid short-circuits and sparking
  • Switch off engine and all other electrical consumers
  • Avoid short-circuits through tools for example
  • Disconnect the negative terminal first when removing the battery
  • Remove foreign objects from the battery installation area and secure the battery firmly after putting it in place
  • Clean the terminals and connectors and lightly grease
  • When installing the battery, connect the positive terminal first and make sure the connectors are firmly attached

Charging

  • Remove the battery from the vehicle by first disconnecting the battery cable from the negative terminal
  • Ensure the area is well ventilated
  • Only use suitable DC chargers
  • Connect the positive output on the charger to the positive terminal on the battery. Connect the negative output to the negative terminal
  • Only switch on the charger when the battery has been connected and switch the charger off first when charging is complete
  • The correct charging current can be found in the operating instructions for your battery
  • The battery is fully charged when the charging voltage does not rise for two hours

Maintenance

  • Keep the battery clean and dry
  • Only wipe the battery with a damp, anti-static cloth otherwise you risk causing an explosion
  • Do not open the battery
  • Charge the battery if the starting power is insufficient

Jump start

  • How To Jump Start A Car thumbOnly use batteries with the same rated voltage
  • Switch off both engines and all electrics (except the donor vehicle's hazard warning lights)
  • First connect the red jump lead to the positive terminal of the flat battery, and then attach the clip on the other end of the lead to the donor battery
  • Then connect the black cable to the negative terminal on the donor vehicle before attaching the free end of the cable to a metal part away from the battery on the vehicle with the flat battery. The best area may be the engine block (see vehicle manufacturer's instructions)
  • It makes certain that the cables do not come into the range of the exhaust or the drive belt
  • Start the engine of the donor vehicle, and then start the engine of the vehicle with a flat battery (max. 15 seconds) and let it run
  • Remove the cables in the reverse order
